Neighbourhood One Residences

Neighbourhood One Residences comprises 11 residential buildings, and is located in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. The exterior space is framed by the configuration of the buildings, creating 4 interconnected courtyards on a podium level. In close proximity to the airport, the landscape design was inspired by notions of flight, movement and travel – and aimed to provide a vibrant outside life by introducing both passive and active communal spaces.

Two of the courtyards feature two-level raised pool terraces, with partially expressed pools and palm trees for shading. The other two courtyards feature shaded seating areas, set amongst mounded planted areas, raised planters and directional pathways.

In keeping with the fundamental ethos of Masdar City, the project embraced the premise of environmental sustainability. The landscape contributed to this with careful plant selection (native and adaptive species with low water requirements), a subsurface irrigation system (water management), shading (for thermal comfort) and light coloured hardscape materials (high Solar Reflectance Index).
